Delicious home made Turkey Barbecue Sandwich
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 1⁄4 cup chopped onion
  • 1 (8 ounce) can tomato sauce, unsalted preferred
  • 1 cup ketchup
  • 3 tablespoons Barbecue sauce
  • 3 tablespoons cider vinegar
  • 1 tablespoon brown sugar
  • 1⁄2 teaspoon prepared yellow mustard
  • 1⁄2 cup water or 1⁄2 cup low sodium chicken broth
  • 1⁄8 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 4 cups cooked turkey, skin removed, cut into small cubes (white or dark meat or both)
  • 8 soft hamburger buns
  1. Heat a medium saucepan over medium-high heat. Melt the butter, then add the onions and saute until softened.
  2. Add the remaining ingredients except the turkey and buns to the pan. Reduce heat to low; cover and simmer about 30 minutes. Taste for seasoning.
  3. Place the turkey in a large skillet over medium-low heat. Add enough of the sauce to generously moisten the meat, but not enough to make it soupy. Cover and cook until the turkey is hot, about 10 minutes.
  4. Serve hot on hamburger buns.
